3 kinds of problems

In Life, there are three kinds of problems:

  • big problems
  • medium problems
  • small problems

Agree?

There is a 9.0 magnitude earthquake. Big problem.

The computer you use for work is broken. Medium problem.

Somebody on social media thinks you’re a jerk. Small problem.

Even though, we all tend to react to things differently, I am pretty sure that if we all take a step back and take a deep breathe together we would agree on what is a big, a medium and a small problem.

The question I am asking myself and I am asking you here is:

How should we react to each problem?

If I look back at my life, I realize that when there is a big problem, I am always heroic. What does that mean? It means that I do what the super-hero does in the movies, except that I don’t always kiss the girl at the end.

How do you react when there is a big problem?

When there is a medium problem, I realize that sometimes I react like a pro and sometimes I react like a victim. Sometimes, I got things under control, I address the problem and make a list of what I must do and it’s over. Some other times, I am overwhelmed and I just don’t know where to start. This probably depends on if I have some expertise in this medium problem (let’s say something related to health) or if I don’t have any expertise in this medium problem (let’s say something related to a software).

How do you react when there is a medium problem?

Lastly, paradoxically, I realize that when there is a small problem, I react like a child. Someone at work send me an unfriendly email and I block for hours, wondering why someone would act this way with me.

How do you react when there is a small problem?

I love being a hero sometimes and I love looking like an expert at times. But I can’t stand that part of me that acts like a victim or like a child.

So I made up the following mantra and pasted it on my kitchen cupboard.

“Like a Hero,

Like a Pro,

Like a Sage”

Good for me, I already know how to react like a hero (when there’s a big problem).

Now, when there is a medium problem, I just need to react like a pro. No emotions, no wondering, just do, just ask, just solve. Game over.

And when there is a small problem, I need to be what I’ve always dreamt to become: someone wise, someone sage, someone who can take a step back and ignore gracefully, laugh politely at those small problems.

“Like a Hero. Like a Pro. Like a Sage”

Which problems do you struggle the most in terms of your reactions?

Lastly, do you remember the rule? If this post made you feel something positive, energizing or inspiring, you have no other choice but to go to the top of the sidebar and subscribe!

Thank you.
